Start here: AWS Academy Cloud Foundations (Foundational). An overall understanding of cloud computing for any role.

Pathway 1: Solutions Architect
For people drawn to how systems are designed, secured and run.
- AWS Academy Cloud Foundations (Foundational). As described above.
- AWS Academy Cloud Architecting (Associate). How to build infrastructure on AWS that is scalable, reliable, secure and cost-aware, using one business scenario you build on module by module. Modules: introducing cloud architecting and the AWS Well-Architected Framework; securing access; adding storage with Amazon S3; adding compute with Amazon EC2; adding a database layer; creating a networking environment; connecting networks; securing user, application and data access; monitoring, elasticity and high availability; automating your architecture with AWS CloudFormation; caching content; decoupled architectures; serverless architectures and microservices; data engineering patterns; planning for disaster; bridging to certification. Ends with a capstone project. Aligned to AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate (SAA-C03).
- One lab project, your choice. Either Cloud Web Application Builder, where you design and deploy a database-backed web application that stays available, scales and is secure, or Microservices and CI/CD Pipeline Builder, where you break one large application into containerised services and build an automatic release pipeline. You plan the architecture, estimate its cost, build it without step-by-step instructions and present it.
Roles it points to: cloud architect, solutions architect, cloud support, systems operations and DevOps.
Pathway 2: Machine Learning
For people drawn to data, predictions and generative AI.
- AWS Academy Cloud Foundations (Foundational). As described above.
- AWS Academy Machine Learning Foundations (Foundational). The concepts of AI, machine learning and generative AI, then a full machine learning pipeline in Amazon SageMaker: preparing data, training, hosting, evaluating and tuning a model. Also forecasting with Amazon Forecast, computer vision with Amazon Rekognition, natural language processing with Amazon Polly, Comprehend and Translate, and a first hands-on session with a foundation model.
- AWS Academy Machine Learning for Natural Language Processing (Intermediate). How machines read, sort and generate text: processing and vectorising text, sentiment analysis, information extraction, topic modelling, translating and transcribing across languages, and working with large language models. Ends with a capstone project.
- AWS Academy Generative AI Foundations (Foundational). Generative AI from the business side: foundation models, prompt engineering, choosing and refining a model, retrieval-augmented generation, responsible AI, and security, governance and compliance. Hands-on labs and projects
Reading about cloud services gives you theory. Working with real AWS resources shows you how configurations behave and how to fix them. Across the pathways you will:
