Founders Cohort for Students in India: How to Join & What You Learn

Many students dream of starting something, but they do not know where to begin. A founders cohort for students in India gives you a structure: a team, mentors, a timeline and a campus where everyone around you is building too.

This guide explains how the PRTF founder track works for students in Greater Noida, who can join, what you learn in each term and how to apply.

Why Join a founders cohort for students in India?

Learning from books is useful. Learning by doing is better. In a cohort, every student founder in your batch is solving problems at the same pace. Corridor chats become working sessions. Failures are shared early, so they cost less.

  • Peers who build: your batch becomes your first team and your first critics.
  • Founders in the room: sessions with founders start in Term I.
  • Mentors who have done it: eight weeks of mentorship to start, and a panel review at the end of Year 1.
  • An incubator on campus: 18 ventures have been incubated at PRTF since 2022.

Who Can Join and How to Apply

Any graduate can apply: a bachelor’s degree of at least three years in any discipline with 50% aggregate marks (45% for SC and ST candidates). You need no coding and no business background. Final-year students can apply and are admitted provisionally.

Selection is simple. If you hold a valid score in CAT, XAT, CMAT, MAT, ATMA or GMAT, you go to the interview. If not, PRTF’s own process uses academics, a 30-minute aptitude test, a 15-minute interview and any work experience. Applying is free. What You Learn: Idea to MVP to Company

The track follows the idea to MVP to company path through Terms I to III of the PGDM.

  • Term I: understand a startup, find and validate a problem, learn how problems are commercialised, design a solution and pitch.
  • Term II: build the product and test it with users. Work on revenue models and a go-to-market plan.
  • Term III: startup finance, investment, building a team, growth versus scale, company registration and government initiatives. End with a pitch to a panel.

Your work on the track can earn credits and marks. After Year 1 you can keep building at the PRTF Startup Hub or take a 4–5 week paid internship. A selected venture gets six months of incubation and can carry on as your final project.

Three Myths About Student Founders

Myth 1: You Need Money First

Not at all. In the track you start with a problem and a simple test. Support such as co-working space, mentors and legal help is available for selected ventures, and seed support goes to those that clear the panel.

Myth 2: You Must Know Technology

There is no coding required for admission, and no maths is assumed. The AI layer in the first year builds applied skills, so even a non-technical student can build and test a product idea.

Myth 3: A Startup Means Skipping Studies

A startup in PGDM runs beside your core courses, such as marketing, finance, operations and analytics. You learn the business model ideas in class and use them in your venture the same term. The two support each other.

Graduate as a Founder, Not Just a Job Seeker

At PRTF, founding a company is a legitimate career outcome. You can still prepare for placements, because placement preparation starts in Term IV. The point is that you leave with options. For many students, a founders cohort for students in India is the first time they see how a business is really started.
