PRTF School of Management participates in Google Career Launchpad, and delivers the Google DeepMind AI Research Program curriculum to its students.

This is not an introduction to using AI tools. Students build and fine-tune a small language model from the ground up, working through the same ideas that sit behind systems like Gemini.

What students actually work through

The curriculum is built by Google DeepMind. It runs as a sequence, each course assuming the one before it. Courses are released in order, and students work through them with our faculty rather than alone.

Build Your Own Small Language Model

Start where the field started. How does a machine predict the next word at all, and what breaks when you try it with simple statistics?

Represent Your Language Data

Models do not read text. They read numbers. This course is about the translation, and about what gets lost or distorted in it.

Design And Train Neural Networks

The machinery underneath. Students build classifiers, watch them fail, and learn to read what the failure is telling them.

Transformers, fine-tuning and the capstone

Later courses in the path move into transformer architecture, adapting a pre-trained model to a specific task, and a capstone where students take on a problem of their own choosing.

Responsible AI is not a bolt-on module here. Questions about bias, about who benefits from a model and who is affected by it, are built into each course alongside the technical work. That framing suits a management school better than it would a pure engineering programme.

How it runs at PRTF

Students learn on Google Skills, Google's own learning platform. Our faculty teach alongside it rather than leaving students to work through the material by themselves.

  1. Python foundations first

    Before the curriculum begins, PRTF teaches the Python groundwork students need. Nobody is expected to arrive already fluent.

  2. Platform access

    Enrolled students are invited onto Google Skills and join the PRTF learning group.

  3. Guided sessions

    Faculty from the AI and Data Science department teach the concepts, work through the harder passages, and set the pace.

  4. Labs in Colab

    The practical work runs in Google Colaboratory. Students write and run real code, not simulations.

  5. Build something

    The path closes on a capstone: an AI-backed solution to a problem the student identifies themselves.

Taught, not just made available. The curriculum is designed for learners with a technical background. PRTF's role is to close that gap, which is why the Python foundations sit at the front of the programme rather than being assumed.

What students come away with

Two things, and they do different jobs on a CV.

Google digital credentials

As students complete courses in the path, they earn Google-issued completion badges, claimable on Credly and shareable on LinkedIn.

  • Issued by Google, verifiable by anyone
  • Independent of PRTF, so they travel with the student
  • Recognisable to recruiters outside the institution

A PRTF record of the work

PRTF issues its own certificate of completion for the module as taught here, covering the teaching, assessment and capstone.

  • Names the curriculum studied and the work produced
  • Sits alongside the PGDM in the student's record
  • Backed by a capstone project they can show and discuss

The capstone is often the most useful part at interview. A student who has built and fine-tuned a language model, and can explain the choices they made and what they would do differently, is in a different conversation from one who has only listed a course.

Where this sits at PRTF

PRTF's Post Graduate Diploma in Management is AI-centric by design rather than by addition. This is the deep end of that design, and it is also available as a standalone certification programme.

Year 1: AI literacy, then application

Every student, whichever specialisation they go on to, builds a working understanding of what these systems do, where they fail, and how to judge a claim made about them. The Python foundations sit here.

Year 2: AI and Data Sciences

Students on this track go further. The AI Research Program curriculum runs here, for those who want to understand these systems from the inside rather than only work with them.

The Marketing and Finance track is not left out. Those students take the AI core in Year 1 and apply it in their own domain. The difference is depth of implementation, not access.

Both routes are taught by the same faculty from the AI and Data Science department, and both begin with the Python foundations rather than assuming them.

Questions students ask

Do I need to know how to code before I join?

No. The Google DeepMind AI Research Program curriculum assumes Python proficiency, which is why PRTF teaches the Python foundations first, as part of the programme. What you do need is willingness to work through difficult material. This is a technical curriculum and we do not pretend otherwise.

Is this an extra cost on top of the PGDM?

No. Students enrolled in the PGDM study it as part of their coursework at no additional cost. Learners who are not enrolled in the PGDM can take it as a standalone certification programme instead, which is charged separately.

How long do I have to complete it?

Students receive a period of platform access once onboarded, and the teaching schedule is built to fit comfortably within it. Your faculty will set out the timetable at the start.

Is there a certification exam at the end?

This particular path does not currently carry a Google certification exam. What it does carry are course completion badges issued by Google, and a capstone project of your own. Other Google Cloud tracks with associated certification exams are offered separately at PRTF.

I am not a PGDM student. Can I still take this?

Yes. PRTF runs the same curriculum as a standalone certification programme, taught on campus by the same faculty, for graduates and working professionals who are not enrolled in the diploma. Contact us for the current schedule.

I am on the Marketing and Finance track. Can I take this?

Speak to the AI and Data Science department. The curriculum is demanding and assumes a technical footing, but we would rather have that conversation with you than turn you away on the basis of your specialisation alone.

What is Google Career Launchpad?

It is Google Cloud's programme for higher education, giving faculty access to structured curriculum and learning resources to deliver to their students. PRTF participates in it, which is how our students reach the DeepMind AI Research Program path.
