Founders Cohort Program in India: Build While You Study

Founders pitching at Pathfinder Foundation Innovation incubation centre, PRTF Greater Noida
Most management schools prepare you for a job. What if you could prepare for a job and start a company at the same time? That is the idea behind the Founders Cohort Program in India at PRTF School of Management, Greater Noida. Here, a founder track runs through the first year of the AICTE-approved PGDM. Every student, whatever their background, learns business by building one. This blog explains how the cohort works, what you get and who it is for.

What Is the Founders Cohort Program in India?

The founder track PGDM is part of the programme itself. It is not a weekend club. Beside core courses and the AI layer, every student takes a real problem to a working product and then to a company. The track runs through Terms I to III, and your performance in it can earn credits and marks.

The cohort sits inside the PRTF Startup Hub, which has three parts: the founder track for every student, the incubator for selected startups, and a network of investors, founders and other startups. When people ask about a Founders Cohort Program in India, this three-part setup is the heart of the answer.

How the Founder Track Runs, Term by Term

  • Term I • Idea: eight weeks of mentorship. You learn how a startup works, find and test a problem, study business models, design a solution and meet founders. You finish with a submission and a pitch.
  • Term II • MVP: you build a minimum viable product and test it with real users. You also work on a revenue model and a go-to-market plan, with pitch sessions and mentoring.
  • Term III • Company: startup investment, team building, growth versus scale, startup finance, company registration, grants and government initiatives. The term ends with a final pitch to a panel of experienced leaders from different domains.

Between Year 1 and Year 2 you have two choices: keep building the venture at the hub, or take a 4–5 week paid internship with a startup or company.

What Selected Startups Get

Startups chosen by the panel enter six months of formal incubation, extendable to a year after a performance review. The campus incubator, Pathfinder Foundation Innovation, has supported 18 ventures since June 2022 and is supported under the UP IT & Startup Policy 2020, the state’s StartinUP programme.

  • Co-working space and digital infrastructure on campus, and a wet lab for science ventures
  • Mentorship from domain experts, a chartered accountant and a High Court lawyer
  • Legal and marketing support plus help with intellectual property
  • Financial assistance: seed support for ventures that clear the panel
  • Investor meetings, exhibitions and introductions to a wider network

A venture can continue through Year 2 and become your final project. Founding a company counts as a real career outcome here, not a detour.

Why Greater Noida for Startup Incubation?

PRTF sits in Knowledge Park III, an education hub in Greater Noida. For startup incubation in Greater Noida, the big benefit is that classes, labs, the library, the incubator and the hostel are in one building. You walk from a lecture to a mentoring session in minutes.

Students use IT and AI labs with a dedicated server room and a fibre backbone, so software and data ventures can build and test real models on campus. Science ventures use bench space in the wet lab. This is practical incubation support for students, not a brochure promise.

PGDM Admission with Startup Incubation: What to Check

If you are planning PGDM admission with startup incubation, keep a short checklist: is the PGDM AICTE-approved, is the founder track part of the course, does the incubator have a panel and mentors, and are fees and support written down? PRTF ticks these on its website. As an AI-centric PGDM, it also means your venture can use AI from the first term.

Who Should Join This Cohort?

You do not need to have coded or run a business. The cohort is open to graduates from commerce, arts, science and engineering. If you want to start a company while you earn a management degree, or you simply want to learn business by doing, it is a good match.

The first year also builds AI skills step by step: AI literacy in Term I, AI application in Term II and AI strategy in Term III. The two tracks meet in the middle. The term you learn to apply AI is the term you build your MVP. The term you learn AI strategy is the term you turn your venture into a company. That is what makes the Founders Cohort Program in India different from a normal elective.

The incubator mostly backs ventures in health, agriculture, environment, deeptech and AI. If your idea is at the pre-seed stage, the team will tell you honestly which door fits.
